A new website

We've just completed a new website build for Bluebell Country Kennels. Their site was hosted on a php server with a really clunky CMS.

Now, for less hosting that is 25% of what they were paying, Bluebell get a really slick management interface with way more contorl over their site.

We'll be providing ongoing support too, under our retainer deal, and the price will still be about half of what they were paying.

Search terms to be hidden

It's going to a little less easy to find out the search terms people have used to find your site in future, because Google are going to hide this information when certain users click through to your site from the Google search pages.

This will only happen for certain signed-in Google users so it may not have much impact, but it's something to be aware of and I can imagine we may see more of this over time.

4ormat - Squarespace contender

Another highly user-friendly platform has just been relaunched and I believe this is a serious consideration as an alternative to Squarespace. It is another paid-for platform, which is good. It is also very cheap, extremely user-friendly, and versatile. Also, it is beautiful.

Where it differs from Squarespace is that it is designed more for use as a portfolio site - for artisits and designers - and less for Bloggers. In fact, there is no blogging platform, although tht doesn't mean you couldn't integrate one usinf a third party, such as Blogger.

SEO is simple

According to this article, good SEO is about "not being a dick on the internet". You will find a few simple rules here which I thoroughly endorse.

People ask about SEO and it often feels like there has to be some fantastically technical answer which will require no effort on the website owner's part.

But really it is about you the owner of your content doing some simple things consistenly. Yes, it needs a bit of concentration, but it is not difficult, it is cheap, and it does mean you get to understand your web presence and your readers better and better.

For most of us, anything more just makes us victims of the law of diminishing returns, and of overpaid consultants.
